Members of the Uzbek Community Center of San Francisco Bay Area (UCCSFBA) had the opportunity to participate in a lab tour and demonstration of earthquake engineering research at UC Berkeley. The tour was organized by PhD. Shakhzod Takhirov, a lead civil engineer and the director of CEE Lab's operations in collaboration with UCCSFBA’s Volunteers Group which is led by Zavqiddin Zyodullaev and Malika Safaeva..

The purpose of the tour was to provide the community center members with firsthand experience and knowledge about earthquake engineering research. The tour started with an introduction to UC Berkeley Lab and its mission to advance the understanding of earthquake behavior and develop innovative solutions for seismic protection.

During the tour, the UCCSFBA members had the opportunity to gain knowledge various experiments conducted by the researchers. They watched videos of the testing of different building materials and structural systems under simulated earthquake conditions. Through these demonstrations, the members gained insights into the challenges faced in designing earthquake-resistant structures and the measures taken to ensure their safety.

PhD. Shakhzod Takhirov guided the participants through the different research projects being conducted at the lab. He explained the importance of earthquake engineering in regions prone to earthquakes, such as Uzbekistan. The members learned about the latest technologies and methodologies used in earthquake research and how they are applied to enhance building resilience.

The tour concluded with a Q&A session, allowing the UCCSFBA members to ask questions to deepen their understanding of earthquake engineering. They engaged in discussions with PhD. Shakhzod Takhirov and the researchers, gaining valuable insights and knowledge.

This lab tour and demonstration provided the members of the Uzbek Community Center with a unique opportunity to learn about earthquake engineering research. It not only increased their awareness about the importance of seismic protection but also inspired them to explore further opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.

The UCCSFBA expresses its heartfelt gratitude to PhD. Shakhzod Takhirov and the UC Berkeley CEE Lab for organizing this insightful and enriching experience. The center looks forward to continued collaboration and fostering a strong relationship between the Uzbek community and the earthquake engineering research community in the future.

After the tour and presentation concluded, participants had the pleasure of savoring delectable Uzbek cuisine courtesy of "Noiloj cafe." The entire cost of the lunch was graciously covered by Dante Zakhidov, a member of UCCSFBA. We are extremely thankful to have such generous individuals like Dante among our ranks.
